Built-in Camcorder Effects
All home video camcorders nowadays give you the opportunity to have fun with digital effects; the range of these effects will vary according to the make, budget and the model in question.
Just two decades ago, if you would have wanted these effects/features, it would have cost a small fortune in the professional world. Amazing, how fast technology improves!
So go ahead and try them out!
Turn a shot of your friend into a pixellated negative humanoid! There are other effects as well, which you will find really amusing.
Though the built-in effects available on your video camcorders are fun to use, you need to be aware that in most cases the recording of the video will be committed to tape, with those added effects.
Adding Effects in Playback
Built-in camcorder digital effects are readily available on any budget-priced camcorder today.
You also get camcorders that allow you to add special video effects while the camcorder is playing back the tape, and is being viewed on a TV set.
You may do that for any reason… It could be that you are making a copy to a VCR or DVD recorder.
In any case, rather than committing the effects to the tape as it is being recorded, it is better & preferable to experiment with the effects in playback mode. This way, at least you would not be stuck with the effects on the video, as their appeal wears off.
Leave it for Later!
You need to be careful and take extra care when you are applying such effects to shots that are being recorded onto tape in the camcorder. You cannot change/undo them later!
If you are planning to use a computer to compile your movies and do all the editing, leave all the effects until later on. It is much easier and flexible to do it on a computer.
