Camcorder Lights
Built-in vs. Add-on Lights

Camcorder Lights! Using Add-on lights is a better option than using the built-in camcorder lights if you intend to shoot in darker places.

Another accessory which you may want to consider buying is a battery-operated light!

Disadvantages of Built-In Camcorder Lights!

Though some of the camcorders do come equipped with built-in lights there effectiveness is generally very limited. Since the light source is tiny, they won’t help much in reasonably bright ambient light.

Besides, they use the same battery that powers-up the camcorder so the battery will get exhausted soon if you put on the camcorder lights for some time.

A better alternative is to use an accessory called Add-on Lights!

Advantages of Using Add-on Lights!

It is a battery-operated light that can either sit onto the camcorder’s accessory shoe (hot shoe) or to a bracket attached to the camcorder.

The advantage here is that the power in to the light is delivered from a separate dedicated battery.
Secondly, the usable camcorder light is far brighter than what you get with built-in camcorder lights.

You also have the option of using re-chargeable batteries with many of these low-cost lighting units. As far as camcorder lighting is concerned, these lighting units will provide ample illumination in darker places where you wish to record.

Tips on Using Add-on Camcorder Lights!

You should always arrange for your main supply of light and treat the portable light only as a back-up source.

Portable lamps can also be helpful while shooting outdoors. Using an add-on light, you can fill-in the shadows on a persons face when shooting in bright sunlight.
